The Transformation of Algodao de Jandaira, Brazil

In 2002, when God revealed Algodao de Jandaira to them through a dream given to  one of the choir members, it had not rained in that region with any kind of significance for nearly 23 years. The people lived in abject poverty, and water had to be trucked in. Even then it was brown and brackish.

Many of the people lived in these stick and much homes. Money and food supplies were scarce and many times they were relegated to eating cactus leaves for their meals.

As the people of First Baptist Church in Valentina, a suburb of Joao Pessoa, Brazil were confronted with God’s heart for this small community, they obeyed and at first, four church members including Pastor Simone made the 3 1/2 hour trip to this “unknown” community.

To their amazement, they found a couple and a blind man that had been praying for God to send someone to help them. From September, 2002 until Christmas 2003 they sent a team many times twice a month to visit and bring food, clothes and supplies, but it seemed as if they made little difference.

In January of 2004, they made the trip, and gathered for prayer under the “tree of life” before driving the remainder of the 11 KM to Algodao. but this time, something was different, the ground was not as dusty and things seemed to be more green.

As they came into town, the riverbed that had been dried up for years was overflowing, and the reservoir was flowing over the spillway. Everyone in town, knew it was the prayers of the believers that had brought the showers of blessing.

Today, Algodao de Jandaira is green and productive.

There is a thriving Baptist church in the town that is reaching out to the communities in the region.

In this picture, the reservoir is five times as big as the town. Before the rains came, there was no water or only a pool about nine feet across.

The animals bathed in that water and the children drank the same water because they had not water in their homes.

Today, A new ceramics factory employs men from the community, and the owner of the factory said he felt God was “calling him” to bring the factory to Algodao.
